Who Can Use This Buyback?
Time spent in compulsory military service (as a private, non-commissioned officer, or in reserve officer training) may be bought back. For maternity leave, an insured woman may buy back up to two years after each birth, for up to three births, provided she did not work during that period and the child survived. Since 1 January 2026, military service buybacks cost 45% of the chosen daily earnings and maternity buybacks 32% (Law No. 7566, Art. 21).
How to Apply
Application is made in person or by post to the Social Security Centre for the applicant's place of residence, with a service buyback request petition. SGK calculates the debt based on the daily earnings chosen within the permitted range and notifies the applicant; payment must be made within one month of notification, or the request lapses.
Effect on Retirement
The bought-back period is added to both the total insured period and the premium days required for retirement, and can in some cases bring forward the retirement date. If a period before the start of insurance is bought back (for example, military service completed before starting work), the insurance start date is moved back by the number of days bought back (Law No. 5510, Art. 41). This can change which retirement rules apply to you; certain exceptions, such as persons first insured as civil servants (4/c) after 2008, are regulated separately. Frequently Asked Questions
Is military service buyback the same as the overseas buyback?
No. This tool calculates buybacks of military service and maternity periods in Turkey under Article 41 of Law No. 5510. Buying back time spent abroad is governed by Law No. 3201 and calculated under separate rules.
Why did the military service buyback rate rise to 45% in 2026?
Article 21 of Law No. 7566 (Official Gazette, 19 December 2025) amended Article 41 of Law No. 5510 so that, from 1 January 2026, maternity buybacks are charged at 32% and all other buybacks, including military service, at 45%. The same Law raised the earnings ceiling from 7.5 to 9 times the minimum.
Why do I choose the daily amount?
The law allows the daily earnings figure to be freely chosen within the minimum and maximum limits; a higher figure increases both the premium-day earnings credited and the total cost.
How many days can I buy back for maternity leave?
Up to 2 years (720 days) per birth, for up to 3 births — a maximum of 2,160 days in total.
Can I pay the debt in instalments?
No, the notified debt must be paid in a single payment within one month of notification; otherwise the request lapses and must be resubmitted.
What are the 2026 minimum and maximum limits?
The daily earnings you choose must be between the 2026 daily gross minimum wage of TRY 1,101.00 and 9 times that, TRY 9,909.00. For military service (45%) the daily cost is therefore between TRY 495.45 and TRY 4,459.05; for maternity (32%) between TRY 352.32 and TRY 3,170.88.
