Bursa Civil Court of First Instance
Bursa Courthouse has a Civil Court of First Instance. It hears civil cases that the law does not assign to another court, such as compensation, inheritance and general debt claims (Code of Civil Procedure, Art. 2). Where no family, labour, commercial or consumer court has been set up, those cases are also heard here, with the court acting in that capacity.
Bursa Civil Court of Peace
Bursa Courthouse has a Civil Court of Peace. It hears all disputes arising from tenancies (rent determination, eviction and unpaid rent), actions to end co-ownership (partition) and condominium disputes (Code of Civil Procedure, Art. 4). Non-contentious matters such as certificates of inheritance and guardianship are, as a rule, also handled by the civil court of peace (Art. 383).
Reaching a Specific Court in Bursa by Phone
To reach a specific court such as the Bursa High Criminal Court, the courthouse switchboard is usually called and asked to connect to that court's registry (kalem). Some courthouses also publish unit numbers on their own website; the official source linked at the end of this page can be checked for current numbers. Hearing dates, interim decisions and the status of a case file can be seen on the UYAP Citizen Portal with an e-Devlet password.

Labour and Family Cases in Bursa: How the Process Works
Labour Cases: Process and Competent Court
In employer-employee disputes (severance/notice pay, reinstatement, etc.), mediation must be attempted before filing suit; if mediation fails, a case may be brought before the labour court. The competent court is, as a rule, that of the defendant's (usually the employer's) residence or the place where the work was performed.

Divorce cases are heard at the family court (or, where none exists, the civil court of first instance acting in that capacity). In an uncontested divorce, if the spouses agree in advance on property, alimony, and custody, the case can conclude in a single hearing; a contested divorce involves gathering evidence and hearing the parties and witnesses. The competent court is that of either spouse's residence, or the place where they lived together for the last six months.
How Long Does a Case Take in Bursa? Factors That Affect Duration
- Whether expert examination is required — especially in compensation, inheritance-share, or technically complex disputes, the expert report process is the single biggest factor extending the timeline.
- Whether an on-site inspection is required — property disputes may require the court to examine the location in person.
- The number of parties and witnesses — more witnesses generally means more hearings.
- The courthouse's caseload — larger courthouses may set the next hearing date further out than smaller ones.
- Whether an appeal (istinaf/temyiz) is filed — review by a higher court extends the process before the first-instance decision becomes final.
Going to a Hearing: Documents, ID, and Tracking Your File
- A valid form of identification (ID card, driving licence, or passport) is required and is checked at the security entrance.
- The status of a case file can be tracked in real time through the UYAP Citizen Portal (vatandas.uyap.gov.tr) using an e-Devlet login — hearing dates, interim decisions, and filed documents are visible there.
- For some hearings, party or witness testimony can be taken via SEGBİS (the audio-video information system) without physically attending the courthouse — the relevant court clerk's office can confirm whether this is available.
- Punctuality matters; failing to appear without an excuse can result in an unfavourable outcome or a postponement that lengthens the process.
Court Costs and Legal Aid in Bursa
When filing a lawsuit, an application fee, an advance fee, and an expense deposit (for notifications, expert fees, etc.) are paid; if the case succeeds, most of these costs are, as a rule, recovered from the losing party. Those without sufficient financial means may request legal aid before or during proceedings; this request is made to the relevant court with documents showing income, and if granted, provides a temporary exemption from fees and costs.
